KuvausThe project aims to strengthen cooperation between regions, accelerate the uptake of innovative water technologies, and create sustainable innovation value chains across Europe. The specific objectives include validating and demonstrating advanced monitoring and inspection solutions in real operational environments, fostering collaboration between research organisations, companies and public stakeholders, supporting technology transfer and market uptake, and enhancing regional innovation capacities through joint development activities and knowledge exchange. Through these actions, ATLANTIS contributes to increased competitiveness, improved environmental monitoring capabilities, and stronger interregional cooperation.

Savonia's role: Savonia contributes its expertise in water quality monitoring, environmental sensing, pilot environments and stakeholder engagement. Savonia supports the validation and demonstration of monitoring technologies, participates in the development of collaborative innovation activities, and helps connect regional water-sector actors to the wider ATLANTIS ecosystem. Through its WaterLAB infrastructure and applied RDI activities, Savonia promotes the practical deployment and commercialisation potential of project results.
KehittämistarveThe underwater world presents multiple challenges that affect both small and large companies in the domain.
These include contamination from pollutants and microplastics, hydro-morphological alterations, climate
change impacts, biodiversity loss, ecosystem degradation, and major monitoring and data gaps.
ATLANTIS aims to address these challenges by defining and implementing company-driven use cases
that foster innovation and create new interregional value chains, particularly benefiting less developed
and transition regions.

Focus areas of the proposal:
o Marine ecosystem monitoring and mapping
o Seabed characterization, with sediment analysis
o Identifying invasive and pest species
o Aquatic restoration activities for preservation of water bodies in Europe
o Analysis of water samples for pollutants and climate change related chemicals, to
support green initiatives, including to monitoring acidification and eutrophication.
o Underwater infrastructure inspections, pollution source detection.
o Areas including underwater communication and warning system, fault detection of
cables and support search and rescue.
