KuvausThe key aims of this project
1. Enhancing Practical Learning through VR: - Develop a Digital Curricula - Collaborating with EU partners, the project aims to create and implement a comprehensive, digitally enriched curricula for Western Balkan Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Integrate Virtual Reality Learning (VRL) modules into healthcare curricula to provide immersive, risk-free training environments that simulate complex medical procedures.
2. Developing Digital Infrastructure and Skills: Establish state-of-the-art VR technical infrastructure at partner institutions to support the adoption of digital learning. Conduct extensive training programs for faculty and students to build competencies in using and teaching with VR technologies.
3. Aligning Education with Industry Needs: - Update healthcare curricula, focusing on real-world applications and industry requirements, particularly in fields like nursing and critical medical procedures. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure the relevance of training content to labor market demands.
4. Improving Accessibility and Inclusivity: Leverage VRL to overcome geographic and resource barriers, ensuring that students from remote and underserved areas can access high-quality medical education.
5. Strengthening Institutional Capacity: Build partnerships between universities and industry to enhance governance, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in medical education.
6. Fostering Innovation and Modernization: Use VR technologies to transform traditional teaching methods, fostering creativity and engagement in healthcare education. -Conducting knowledge transfer workshops for HEI management and academic staff from Western Balkan universities to enhance their digital skills and familiarity with cutting-edge technologies. Conducting in-depth research on emerging technologies and their applications in HEIs and the tourism sector of Western Balkan countries.
KehittämistarveThe project aims to support the development of healthcare education in Albania and Kosovo by addressing gaps in practical training as well as digital and technological deficiencies. It strengthens hands-on learning through the use of Virtual Reality (VR). Savonia UAS, together with its partners, will develop VR tools for use in healthcare courses to improve students’ learning experiences and enhance the overall quality of practical training.
ToimenpiteetThe project will examine the best practices available in EU partner HEIs for benchmarking. It will also develop guidelines for VR integration, establish Virtual Reality laboratories in the partner HEIs, and train both staff and students. Study modules using VR will be integrated into the healthcare curricula.
TuloksetPrograms and Courses to Be Updated:
Programs – Technical medical sciences such as Healthcare and Nursing programs across the targeted institutions.
Scope - Updating four undergraduate and graduate programs to incorporate VR-based learning modules.
Courses - A total of 4 courses per HEI will be modernized, including:
o Emergency Care and Critical Nursing
o Medical Simulation and Clinical Decision-Making
o Imagery
o Physiotherapy

Quantitative Outputs and Indicators - Infrastructure Development:
• Establish four fully equipped VR labs across the partner HEIs (two in Albania and two in Kosovo).
• Install 15 VR workstations per lab, totaling 60 units.
• Develop and integrate 10-15 custom VR training modules aligned with the updated curricula.

Training Programs:
• Conduct three faculty training workshops to familiarize staff with VR technologies and their application in healthcare education.
• Train Faculty members in VR integration and use
